Javelinas take both matchups in opening day of ULM Bayou Bash

TAMUK sweeps both Nicholls and McNeese 3-0 apiece in day one despite weather delays

MONROE, Louisiana — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team traveled to Monroe, Louisiana on the campus of the University of Louisiana Monroe where day one of the ULM Bayou Bash would get off to a bit of a delayed start due to weather delays. What was supposed to be a 9 AM start ended up becoming a 10 AM, then 12 PM, then eventually a 1:30 PM start time where it would be the first team to 3 playing to decision and not completion.

The Javelinas would start off with pair 4 Liana Huesca and Taylor McCarthy who would take down the Colonels 21-18 and 21-11 to continue on a 6-match win streak starting the Javelinas out 1-0.

Flight five would follow suit as Meghan Stiefer and Rylie Anderson would also take down the Colonels in two, 21-13 and 21-15 putting the Javelinas lead at 2-0 only needing one more to end the match due to the playing to decision instead of completion being in place.

Pair three would be the decider therefore the last matchup of the day seeing Olivia Zeigler and Madelyn Wallace getting the win completing the sweep taking both sets 21-8 and 21-11 sending the Javelinas to the next matchup with a win.

Pair one of Kalani Vasquez and Rylan Pollard along with pair two of Adrienne VanBrunt and Grace Gettys would have their courts truncated due to weather conditions and the Javelinas already deciding the matchup 3-0.

The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas face off once again against the McNeese Cowgirls for the second weekend in a row starting off with the fourth flight of Huesca and McCarthy who would open with a 21-15 set one victory then a quick set two 21-13 putting the Javelinas up 1-0.

Pair 5 would see Stiefer and Anderson follow suit taking both sets 21-14 and 21-15 putting the Javelinas one court away from sweeping the day.

The third flight would be the decider once again as Zeigler and Wallace would take down the Cowgirls 21-10 and 21-15 putting the Javelinas on top once again and giving them the day one sweep.

The Javelinas will be back out again on day two wrapping up the ULM Bayou Bash facing off against Missouri State at 9 AM and host school Louisiana Monroe at 12:30 PM.
