SAN ANGELO, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team traveled to San Angelo where they would take on the Angelo State Rambelles falling in both doubleheader matchups 0-2 and 0-1.
Game 1
The game would start out promising as lead off hitter
Seleste Compian would single to left getting on early for the Javelinas but a fielders choice and two pop ups would stop the momentum taking it to the bottom of the first.
The Rams would go three up three down in the bottom of the first giving the Javelina offense another opportunity early.
The top half of the second would give the Javelinas some early offense once more as
Kaylynne Ruiz would knock a one out single to center, but it would be the only production from the Javelinas heading to the bottom half score still knotted at 0.
The bottom of the second would be another three up three down inning quickly sending things to the top of the third.
Compian would start things off in the third for the Javelinas with a walk continuing her production followed by a
Breana Carr single to left field. The Javelinas would get both
Carr and
Compian in scoring position as smart baserunning and a wild pitch would move them up a bag. A two out hit not in the cards however as they were stranded to end the inning sending things to the bottom half.
The Rambelles would get a runner on with one out via the walk, and would see her steal second putting a runner in scoring position with two out in the inning. A single would move the runner to third and another stolen base would put runners on second and third with two outs in the inning. A single up the middle would score a run before a pop out would end the inning sending the game into the fourth ASU up 1-0.
The top of the fourth would begin with a Javelina ground out, followed by a one out single to left once again by
Ruiz, but a pop out and line out would end the offense for the Javelinas sending things to the bottom half Rambelles still up 1-0.
ASU would go two up two down before getting hit by a pitch, but it would turn into a three up three down inning as the third batter would get caught stealing sending things to the 5
th.
There would be nothing doing for the Javelinas in the top half as they would go down in order sending things to the bottom ASU up 1-0.
The Rambelles would start out the inning with a walk, then steal a bag before a line out and pop out would put them with two out in the inning and a runner on second. A hit by pitch and single would load the bases with 2 out in the inning before a walk would score a run sending things to the 6
th up 2-0.
The Javelinas would start the inning with a
Kayla Gonzales single to right field before the remainder would go down in order sending things to the bottom half.
ASU would start out the inning getting a runner on via hit by pitch, and moved over via the SAC bunt, but would go down the remainder in order to send things to the final frame with the Rambelles up 2-0.
Anissa Lechner would keep hope alive for the Javelinas as she would get on via the walk with one out in the inning, a fielders choice and fly out would be it however as the Rambelles would take game one 2-0.
Beth Montes though getting the loss would still pitch a great game only allowing two runs over 6 innings pitched on three hits. She would trust in her defense most of the game gathering more flyball and groundball outs only recording one strikeout on the day.
Game 2
The second game would start off again with the Javelinas getting on base early as
Breana Carr would single to center with one out in the inning and
Aaliyah Ortiz would single up the middle putting two on with two out in the inning with a chance for the Javelinas to strike. Nothing would come of the opportunity however and the game would go into the bottom half still zero-zero.
The Bottom half would see two quick outs before a single, steal and HBP would put two on with two out before the Javelina defense would prevail keeping things at zero.
The second would see
Dakota Martinez get on via the walk but nothing doing the rest of the inning sending the game into the bottom of the second.
A hit by pitch would start the bottom of the second but afterwards the Rambelles would go down in order to send things to the third wrapping up a quick second inning.
Seleste Compian would be the offense in the third singling past third base but being cut down on an inning ending double play.
The Javelinas would sit down the Rambelles in order to make the third another quick inning as things would head to the fourth still scoreless.
The fourth would be a three up three down inning for the Javelinas as they would ground out, line out, and strike out to send things to the bottom of the fourth still scoreless.
Angelo State would start off the inning with a triple to right field before a single would break the scoreless tie making it 1-0 Rambelles on top heading to the top of the 5
th.
Another inning would see the Javelinas go down in order in the top half via ground out, strike out, and fly out before heading to the bottom half still down 0-1.
The bottom half of the inning would see a pop out, and fly out to start things off before two 2 out singles would put the Rambelles in scoring position. Nothing would come of them as a ground out would end the inning sending it to the 6
th.
The Javelinas would not be able to get going offensively as they would once again go down in order heading to the bottom half of the inning still down a run 0-1.
The bottom half would start off with ASU ripping a single to the pitcher followed by a stolen base and single to short before the Javelinas were able to get out of the inning heading to the 7
th only down 0-1.
Ortiz would get things going for the Javelinas in the top of the 7
th with a one out single, but the game would end after a stolen base attempt would be sniffed out and a ground out ending the game with the Javelinas falling 0-1.
The Javelinas look to bounce back tomorrow with the first pitch slated for 12:00 P.M. closing out the series against Angelo State at Mayer Field in San Angelo, Texas.
