Javelinas fall to Dustdevils in season finale

The Hogs closed out the 2023-24 in the SPEC against TAMIU

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team closed out the 2023-24 season on Thursday night against the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in the SPEC. After a competitive first half, the Dustdevils gradually pulled away in the second to take the win, 78-53.

The Javelinas finish the season 6-21 overall and 4-18 in Lone Star Conference play. The Dustdevils finish the regular season 17-11 overall and 13-9 in LSC play.

Both teams traded basket-for-basket to open the game with no team holding more than a two possession lead for most of the first half. The Dustdevils managed to open up a gap heading into the half with an 8-0 lead in the final two minutes of the half. In the second half, TAMIU was the first on the board, scoring the first two baskets and opening a 13 point lead. The Hogs brought the lead back to to eight approaching the 15-minute mark of the second half, but the Dustdevils managed to gradually grow their lead back and never looked back to take the victory.

Marcus Jones-Green led the scoring for the Hogs on the night, totaling 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting and 2-of-4 shooting from deep. Jones-Green also grabbed one apiece of assists, blocks, and steals.

Ke'Andre Jones had a good night offensively as well, finishing just behind Jones-Green with nine points as well as two rebounds.

Jason Clark led the team in rebounding with six total boards. He also added on seven points and a steal.

Four Javelinas grabbed four rebounds in Allen Singleton, Kendrick Washington, Jordan Henderson, and Nate Garcia. Singleton also finished with eight points, three assists, and a steal. Garcia snagged two steals, just behiund C.J. Smith at three.

Alongside his three steals, Smith finished with seven points and a team-leading six assists.
