ODESSA, Texas - Opening up a new series against the UT Permian Basin Falcons, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team dropped game one of the series in seven innings after giving up 14 runs in the sixth inning, 2-19.
The Javelinas (9-10, LSC 7-10) and the Falcons (10-7, LSC 10-7) meet tomorrow for a doubleheader, with game two of the series starting at 12 p.m. and game three scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Falcons were the first on the board in the third inning, bringing four runs across the plate to open up the scoring. The Javelinas got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring one.
Vincent Sanchez got on base with a double to open the inning before advancing to third on a wild pitch.
Garrett Thompson brought Sanchez home three batters later, grounding out to first base but it was enough to get Sanchez across the plate.
UTPB struck back in the bottom of the inning, scoring one more. The Hogs brought one more across the plate in the sixth to bring the score to 5-2.
Michael Cervantes picked up the RBI on a sacrifice fly to score
Ramsey Amador, who opened the inning with a single to get on base. The Falcons put things far out of reach in the bottom of the inning, bringing 14 runs across the plate to force the game to be called early after the Hogs failed to score any more runs in the seventh.
Creede Jeffers (3-2) is credited with the win for UTPB while
Carter Poulson (0-2) is tagged with the loss for the Javelinas
