KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville Women's Basketball Team traveled to Lawton, Oklahoma where they would face off against the Cameron Aggies coming away with a 64-61 victory.
 
Junior 
Veyda Lake took player of the game honors putting together a 10 point 5 rebound 1 assist and 1 steal performance.
 Mia Rivers would once again also make an impact in the game collecting 9 rebounds on 11 points, a rebound shy of a double-double. She was also able to put together 5 assists while swiping 2 steals and a block.
Defense the name of the game as the Javelinas may not have been on top in any shooting category other than free throw percentage but led the game in rebounds blocks and steals. The Javelinas came down with 28 rebounds, outboarding the Aggies by 4, as well as getting the best of them 2 blocks to none, and swiping the ball 9 times as opposed to the opposing 4 making it a solid game defensively for the Javelinas.
The game would start as an absolute shootout, tying the game three times in the first two minutes, again at the 6:09 point 10-10 via a 
Shelby Ray Jumper and lastly with 4:40 to go in the first 12-12 with an 
Alyssa O' Malley jumper. This however is when the Javelinas would gain some distance, beginning with a 
Mia Rivers jumper putting the Javelinas on top the first time in the game 14-12 with 4:08 left to go. The Aggies would respond with a three which was then met by two back-to-back 
Ray Jumpers putting the Javelinas up 18-15 heading into the second quarter.
The second would see Cameron get going first as they would put up 4 straight to retake the lead 19-18 with 9:15 left. 
Georgia Ohiaeri would respond this time with a layup flipping the lead back to the Javelinas 20-19. This would happen again with the Aggies taking the lead, then the Javelinas until two 
Ohiaeri free throws would start a run for the Javelinas. 
Jayde Tschritter would sink a three ball, 
Rivers would mix in a layup, then 
Aina Maynou would drain a three of her own to put the Javelinas up eight 32-24with 1:56 left in the half. The Aggies would attempt a comeback putting up four straight, but 
Veyda Lake would put a stop to it making a layup in the closing seconds of the second, sending both squads to the locker rooms with the Javelinas up 34-28.
 
Coming out of the half 
Lake would continue where she left off, making a jumper right out of the gates to put the Javelina lead back up to 8. The Aggies would go on a 9-2 run to put the Javelina lead back down to one 38-37 with 7:45 left in the third, 
Abby Bala had other ideas however sinking one from deep putting the lead again at a two-score game. 
Maynou would add a layup to the mix making the lead five 43-38 with 5:18 left in the third. 
Janessa Payne would be added to the mix scoring 7 straight being sent to the free throw line making both, sinking a deep ball and making a layup to put the Javelinas at 50-43 with 1:30 left in the quarter. 
Bella Sipowicz would close out the quarter with a pair of free throws sending things to the final frame with the Javelinas up 52-46.
The fourth would then see 
Sipowicz picking things up where she left off with a Jumper, and a steal to start out the quarter. 
Tschritter would add a jumper to the mix while Rivers would sink both from the charity stripe putting the Javelinas up nine 58-49 with 6:39 left in the fourth. A 
Lake jumper would be the last points scored for the Javelinas before the Aggies went on a 5-0 run putting the score at 60-56 with 1:40 left in the game. 
Tschritter and
 Rivers would combine again for a layup and a free throw increasing the Javelina lead to seven 63-56 with 19 seconds left in the game. Two aggies free throws and a 
Maynou free throw would set the lead at six with 11 seconds ticking down. Cameron would make a three with four seconds left, but the Javelinas would hold on to the ball, and the win walking away winners 64-61.
The Javelinas will be back in the Steinke Physical Education Center facing off against the Texas A&M International Dustdevils Thursday February 29
th for their last regular season game, tip off slated for 5:30 P.M.
