KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team was back in action this weekend picking up 4 wins to start out the season. A 5-0 victory day one and a 4-1 win day two over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders. The Javelinas also besting the East Texas Baptist Tigers 4-1 and 5-0 to complete the full sweep of the TAMUK Invitational at the Javelina Beach Courts.
DAY 1
Starting out the day TAMUK faced off against UMHB where across the board they took down the Crusaders sweeping the field walking away winners 5-0.
Starting out with the No. 4 pair of
Liana Huesca and
Taylor McCarthy picking up a 21-14 and 21-15 two set sweep putting the Javelinas on the board.
The No. 5 pair of
Meghan Stiefer and
Rylie Anderson went to three, however dropping set one 17-21, but responding by taking over the next two 21-11 and 15-13 coming away with the win on court 5.
Court No. 3 saw the combination of
Olivia Zeigler and
Madelyn Wallace victorious 21- 10 in set one and 21-17 in set two, walking away winners.
The No. 2 senior squad of
Adrienne VanBrunt and
Grace Gettys took care of business 21-18 and 21-17 taking their matchup on court two.
Court No. 1 saw the tandem of
Kalani Vasquez and
Rylan Pollard put together a carbon copy two set sweep score of 21-19 for both sets one and two to complete the 5-0 sweep for the first match of the day.
The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas face off against the East Texas Baptist Tigers where they would come away winners only dropping one 4-1.
Courts No. 4 and 5 would start things off coming away winners seeing the tandem of
Stiefer and
Anderson handle court No. 5 taking set one 21-14 and set two 21-12. Court No. 4 would see the one-two punch of
Huesca and
McCarthy who only allowed 18 total points between both sets, winning 21-10 and 21-18.
Courts No. 3 saw
Zeigler and
Wallace take down the Tigers 21-8 and 21-12, remaining perfect on the day.
The senior tandem of
VanBrunt and
Gettys would take over court No. 2, leaving the day victorious 21-13 and 21-19.
Court No. 1 would see
Vasquez and
Pollard take set No. 1 before battling past regulation dropping sets two and three 24-22 and 15-11.
The Javelinas would leave day one 2-0 taking down both squads looking for more the following day.
DAY 2
Day two would start off with the Javelinas coming out hot completing a clean sweep of the Tigers 5-0 including the extra match up making all six courts at the Javelina Beach Volleyball Courts a true home court advantage.
Starting with the extra match up
Elizabeth Williams and Kendall Harrington would take it the distance going three sets coming out on top 2-1. It would start with them dropping set one 19-21 but coming back with ferocity taking the next two 21-10 and 15-11.
Court No. 5 would see
Stiefer and
Anderson take down the Tigers with no problems in set number one 21-10 they however would have to work for it in set No. 2 as they would play a little extra winning 22-20.
Huesca and
McCarthy would do dominate court No. 4, only allowing 11 points total in the match, taking things 21-5 and 21-6.
Court No. 3 would consist of another
Zeigler/
Wallace win taking the match 21-14 and 21-13.
The same would go for Court No. 2 as
VanBrunt and
Gettys would be too much for the Tigers taking it in two sets 21-17 and 21-16.
Vasquez and
Pollard would make things interesting on Court No. 1 as they would go three sets dropping the first one 16-21 but coming back and taking the next two 21-19 and 16-14.
The second match up of the day and last match of the TAMUK invitational and Senior day for the Javelinas as
Grace Gettys, Adrienne VanBrunt, and
Rylie Anderson would be honored.
Starting out with an interesting one, the extra match up saw
Callie Freeman and
Kerigan Baumgartner taking down the Crusaders in three sets 21-17, 9-21, and 15-12.
Court No. 5
Stiefer/Anderson would continue to dominate as they would sweep their match in two sets 21-13 and 21-16.
The same would go for court No.4 as
Huesca and
McCarthy would walk away winners 21-9 and 21-10.
Court No. 3 would see an astonishing two set performance as
Zeigler/
Wallace would take down the Crusaders 2 sets to none.
Court No.2 would see
VanBrunt and
Gettys drop two sets to one falling the first set 16-21 taking the second 22-20 and dropping the third 9-15.
Vasquez/
Pollard would handle business in court no. 1 21-15 and 21-13, ending the day for the Javelinas 4-1 taking down UMHB and completing the tournament sweep making them undefeated here in the early going.
The Javelinas are out on the road next time out, traveling to Arizona State for the Sundevil Invitational where they will face Colorado Mesa, Arizona State, and Park University on March 1
