Men's Basketball hosts a pair of Patriots entering final few weeks of the season

With only three more home games on tap for the Hogs, UT Tyler and DBU come to town

KINGSVILLE, Texas - As the basketball regular season begins to wind down, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team welcomes the UT Tyler Patriots and the No.4 Dallas Baptist Patriots to the SPEC as only three more home games remain on the calendar for the Hogs.

Last weekend, the Javelinas (5-17, LSC 3-14) fell in two close games, with each coming down to the final minute, against Oklahoma Christian, 73-74, and UAFS, 70-74.

First up, the Hogs take on UT Tyler on A&I Heritage Night at the SPEC, Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Then, the team squares up against Dallas Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. as we celebrate the team's seniors on Senior Night.

Allen Singleton and Jason Clark were the leading scorers for TAMUK in the last two games. Clark put up 17 points against OCU as well as two rebounds and an assist. Singleton posted a high of 15 against UAFS alongside three rebounds and four assists, as well as showing out on the defensive end with two blocks and three steals - team-leading in both categories.

C.J. Smith had no trouble spreading the ball around in the two games, leading the squad in assists in both contests with seven against UAFS and nine against OCU. He also picked up two steals in both games, bringing him up to 41 steals on the season, tied for 60th in the nation. Smith also led the team in rebounding against OCU with seven.

Nate Garcia was a heavy contributor in both games as well, putting up 10 points against OCU and eight points against UAFS, being a influence on defense as well.

SCOUTING UT TYLER

UT Tyler is coming off a 0-2 weekend agaisnt St. Mary's and St. Edward's. The Patriots are 1-5 since they last took on the Javelinas.
 
Bryce Roberts is the only player for UTT averaging double-digit points this season at 13.4 PPG. He also leads the Patriots in three-point shooting, going 42-of-111 from deep on the season.
 
Alec Zambie remains the leader for Tyler in both assists and rebounds with 73 assists and 133 rebounds. 
 
UTT is practically in a dead-heat with their opponents in rebounding, holding a 0.1 margin advantage, however they have also lost the ball 34 more times.

SCOUTING DBU

DBU comes into the weekend ranked #4 nationally in the NABC Coaches' Poll and #5 in the D2CSC Media Poll.
 
The Patriots are 20-2 on the season and 9-1 in their last 10 games. Their sole loss in the stretch coming only at the hands of No.1 West Texas A&M.
 
Cameron Kahn has been the go-to man for DBU, leading the Patriots in both scoring and rebounding by a large margin. Kahn averages 20.1 PPG and has pulled down 155 rebounds.
 
Four other Patriots average double-digit points as well. Ricky Lujan sits as the second top-scorer averaging 15.1 PPG. Ta'Jay Dunlap, Trevor Frank, and Deng Dut all average 10 PPG as well.
