KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team came back to bring it down to the wire once again in the SPEC as they took on the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions on Saturday afternoon, but came up short after a final minute surge from the Lions, 70-74.
The Javelinas (5-17, LSC 3-14) drop both matchups on the weekend, going 0-2. The Lions (5-19, LSC 3-14) get back in the win column.
The Lions held control for most of the first half and the first ten minutes of the second half, going into halftime with a three point lead. Coming out of the break, UAFS steadily pushed their lead to 10 points by the 15 minutes mark of the second half, but the Javelinas fought back as they have before, quickly erasing the lead and tying the game, 51-51, with 9:43 left in the game.
Down the stretch, neither team could take a definitive lead, trading one-possession leads into the final minutes of the contest. Heading into the final minute of the game, the Hogs held a one-point lead, 70-69, but the Lions scored on their next possession to take the lead once more. The Javelinas failed to score on their next possession as the Lions drained both their free throws to secure the win.
