Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not keep pace with Eastern New Mexico as it fell, 83-93, Wednesday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas (6-5, 2-3 Lone Star Conference) allowed a season-high in points to the Greyhounds (7-4, 3-2 Lone Star Conference) despite also putting up a season-best 83 points themselves. Eastern New Mexico also shot 63 percent from the floor.
Bryson Goldsmith and
Isaiah Payne both finished with 20 or more points, scoring 21 and 20 respectively.
Allen Singleton scored 11 with
Zyon Little and
Daniel Sanchez each scoring 10.
Nate Lacewell, Sanchez and Payne all finished with four rebounds. Singleton and Goldsmith finished with a team-high five assists.
The contest began well for the Javelinas, hitting their first three 3-pointers and holding the Greyhound offense in check. Goldsmith would then find
David Oriaku for a massive and-one dunk with just under 12 minutes to go to give Texas A&M-Kingsville a one-point lead. That however, would be the last time the Javelinas would lead. With under 10 minutes in the first half, the Greyhounds executed a 19-6 run that put their halftime lead to 13.
In the second half, the Javelina's began firing on all cylinders offensively. Slowly but surely, through efficient offense, Texas A&M-Kingsville crawled their way back into the game. Seven straight points from Sanchez brought the contest within seven, and the Javelinas kept hanging around. A steal from Little let the Javelinas run the floor, and
Sam Esan got a tip-in layup to bring the game to three, but the Greyhounds finished the game off from there.
The Javelinas return from holiday break on Jan. 3 to take on St. Mary's in San Antonio. The Game will be streamed on Flosports.
