Javelinas fall in first conference game

Laredo, TX. - Texas A&M-Kingsville fell in its first conference game of the year against Texas A&M-International, 65-50, at the TAMUI Convocation Center on Saturday.

The Javelinas (3-3, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) could not overcome a late first-half surge from the Dustdevils (4-3, 1-0 LSC), who scored 11 points in the final three minutes of the first half to put themselves up 10. Texas A&M-International built on the lead in the second half and took down the Javelinas.

Three Javelinas, Bryson Goldsmith, Nate Lacewell and Allen Singleton, scored a team-high nine points. Singleton also led the Javelinas with four rebounds and two assists on the day.

Long distance shooting proved to be the undoing of the Javelinas, as the Dustdevils hit six first-half 3-pointers and 10 overall. Texas A&M-Kingsville however hit just four three's in the entire game.

While the score did not reflect it, the Javelina defense continues to be a disruptive force this year. The Javelinas forced 11 Dustdevil turnovers and converted it into 11 points. Texas A&M-International was not too far off from that mark however, finishing with nine points off turnovers.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will travel to Houston to take on Texas Southern University Wednesday at HP&E Arena. Fans of the Javelinas can follow live coverage at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
