Denver, CO. - Texas A&M-Kingsville took its first loss of the season in a hard-fought game against MSU-Denver at Auraria Event Center on Thursday.
The Javelinas (2-1) struggled to keep the Roadrunners (3-0) off of the three-point line, as MSU-Denver hit 12 3-pointers to stave off the Javelinas offense. Texas A&M-Kingsville was able to force 22 Roadrunner turnovers, but it was not enough for the Javelinas as they eventually fell in Denver.
Isaiah Payne went a remarkable 11-13 from the field for a career-best 27 points.
Bryson Goldsmith added 13 points and
Allen Singleton followed that with 12 points.
Jordan Henderson and
Zyon Little led the team with four total rebounds. Payne led the team with four assists as well.
The flurry of 3-pointers from the Roadrunners began early in the game, hitting two deep shots within the first six minutes of the game. The Javelinas would battle back however, as a combination of Singleton and Payne brought the Javelinas within four points. A late three pointer from Payne would bring the Javelinas within two, but the Roadrunners got a late layup just as the half expired.
The second half started well for Texas A&M-Kingsville, with Payne finishing a tough layup early in the half to bring the Javelinas within two points. A Goldsmith layup eventually tied the game, but the Javelinas were not able to secure the lead from there. Two 3-pointers from MSU-Denver pushed the lead back two seven points, and the Javelinas were not able to find enough offense to rally in Denver.
Texas A&M-Kingsville finishes their road trip at Colorado State University-Pueblo Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on the RMAC network or follow live coverage on live state or at JavelinaMBB on Twitter,
