Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville takes on St. Edwards University on Wednesday to begin the final week of the regular season at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas (13-12, 5-9 Lone Star Conference) close out the regular season against the Hilltoppers (10-15, 2-12 LSC) on Wednesday and Sul Ross State on Saturday. The match against Sul Ross also serves as senior night for the Javelinas.
Last week, Texas A&M-Kingsville finished with a 1-1 record after taking down Eastern New Mexico in three sets before falling to top-ten ranked West Texas A&M. Despite the loss to the Lady Buffs, the Javelinas were the first team in a month to take a set off of West Texas A&M and played perhaps their best game in conference play this season.
Rylan Pollard led the way offensively for the Javelinas, finishing last week with 24 kills.
Ayanna Jackson was right behind her with 21 kills. Freshman
Nadia Pena would close last week out with a team-high 45 assists.
Shifting to tomorrow's matchup, Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Edwards have historically been evenly matched with each other, with the Javelinas having a slight advantage in the all-time matchup (26-22). Last year's matchup was a hard fought, five set match between the Javelinas and the Hilltoppers in which Jackson would erupt for 16 kills and eight total blocks against St. Edwards.
This season, St. Edwards is led by true freshman Mia Clay. The outside hitter from Mansfield, Texas, is averaging 3.43 kills per set on .220 attack percentage this season. Sophomore Kelli Fording is right behind clay averaging 3.09 kills per set on just a .156 attack percentage.
First serve for Wednesday's match is set for 6:00 p.m. with the game being streamed live on Flosports. Fans of the Javelinas can follow the action through live stats or at JavelinaVB on Twitter.
