Men's Basketball kicks off four game road stint against UAFS and Oklahoma Christian

After getting their first LSC win last week, the Javelinas look to add onto their record on the road

KINGSVILLE, Texas - After picking up their first Lone Star Conference win of the season last week, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team is on the road for two weeks in a row. Kicking off the four game stint, the Javelians take on the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions on Thursday, Jan. 11 with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Afterwards, the Hogs make the drive to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma Christian Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m.

Last time out, the Javelinas (3-8, LSC 1-6) took down St. Mary's in overtime, 80-78, on a half court buzzer beater from Allen Singleton. However, the Javelinas found themselves on the opposite side of the same coin two days later, falling to St. Edward's on a desperation shot, 77-79.

Jason Clark put up new career-high numbers in points, rebounds, and assists on the weekend. Clark led the team in scoring in both games, putting up 17 against St. Mary's - a new career-high - and 16 against St. Edward's. He put up a new career-high in rebounding against St. Edward's as well with 7 total rebounds and two assists against St. Mary's for a career-high in that category as well.

C.J. Smith continues to be a constant presence for the Javelina offense, finishing with 16 points in both games on the weekend as well as six assists against St. Mary's and four against St. Edward's. Clark also added three steals to his stat line over the weekend, bringing his total for the season up to 26, tied for 53rd in the nation.

Kendrick Washington put up impressive performances for the Hogs as well, posting a new season-high in points with 15 against St. Mary's alongside 11 points against St. Edward's. Washington shot nearly 50 percent from behind the arc in the contest against the Rattlers, going 5-of-12 from downtown.

Freshman Zyon Little has put up great first impressions this season, finishing in the top three in rebounding for the Javelinas in both games last weekend, including a team leading six total rebounds against St. Mary's. He also posted five assists and 15 points over the two game span.

Marcus Jones-Green posted a breakout game against St. Edward's with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including going 3-of-4 from three-point land, as well as totaling a team leading six assists.

The Javelinas have control of the recent series against both UAFS and Oklahoma Christian. The Hogs lead the recent series against the Lions, 5-1, and the recent series against the Eagles, 3-1.

SCOUTING THE LIONS

UAFS comes into the weekend going 0-2 their last times out against DBU and UT Tyler. The Lions are 0-7 in conference play this season.

The Lions have had struggles on the offensive end of the floor, having three players averaging 10.0 or more PPG, but their highest scorer, Payton Brown, standing at only 11.4 PPG.

Brown is also the team's main three-point shooter alongside Roland McCoy. Brown is 27-of-70 on the season from behind the arc while McCoy is 20-of-67.

The Lions have been give and take on the defensive end of the floor, forcing 174 turnovers on the season but also giving up 180 turnovers to their opponents.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

The Eagles have gone 3-1 in their recent contests, riding a three game win streak before falling to #6 DBU, 88-71.

Moun'tae Edmundson has been the main scoring threat for OCU with 14.6 PPG. Karlyn Kenner sits in second for the Eagles with 10.2 PPG.

Like the Lions, Edmundson is also the main three-point threat for the Eagles, going 24-of-53 from downtown for a 45.3 percentage.

Jovan Savic leads the team in rebounding with 63 and blocks with eight.

The Eagles have been outrebounding their opponents by a 2.8 margin while also taking care of the ball, giving up less turnovers than their opposition.
