KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team is preparing for its fourth home match in a row, this time with LSC implications as they enter into conference play on Wednesday at 6 P.M. facing the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils.
The Javelinas 8-3 on the year, while TAMIU is 7-4 as both squads come off a slate of LSC nonconference games.
The Javelinas are looking to add to their success as they went 2-1 while hosting the LSC Preview Tournament. Starting the tournament hot, the Javelinas bested rival Angelo State last thursday for the first time at home since 2015, before sweeping the Rattlers of St. Mary's on Saturday three sets to none. The Javs lone loss came in their second match of the tournament dropping a heartbreaker to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Lions in five sets 2-3.
Defensively both squads come into Wednesday looking to be fairly matched, tied at 90.0 total blocks on the season (2.14 Avg/s) putting them at 6
th & 7
th in the conference respectively.
Offensively however the Javelinas come into the match top five in every category which includes Kills (13.00 Avg/s), Assists (12.19 Avg/s), Hitting Percentage (.243), and Points (16.74).
Sophomore
Elisa Carli leads the charge in assists for the Blue and Gold with 247 and 5.88 Assists per Set, while junior
Ayanna Jackson currently leads the squad in hitting percentage with a .342. Senior
Jackie Alanis rounding out the rest of the categories with 147.5 total points (3.51 per set) and 129 kills to her credit.
The Dustdevils come into the match looking to bounce back after a trip to Canyon for the LSC Crossover left them 0-3 in the tournament dropping matches to #2 West Texas A&M 3-0, UT Tyler 3-1, and Dallas Baptist University 3-2.
Wednesday's meeting is the 20
th match between the two teams with the Javelinas currently leading the way 15-4 with home squad winning the last two meetings last season.
