TAMUK set to host LSC Preview across three days

Javelinas prepare to welcome ASU, Arkansas Fort Smith, and St. Mary’s

KINGSVILLE, Texas – This week is set to be a busy one for Texas A&M University-Kingsville's volleyball team as it will host the annual Lone Star Conference Preview beginning on Thursday with matches against Angleo State, Arkansas Fort Smith, and St. Mary's in what will be non-conference play.

The Javelinas enter the tournament 6-2 on the season after splitting their last four matches at the Yellow Jacket Classic last week, earning two, 3-0 victories over the University of Mary and Black Hills State to close out the tournament.

Bringing home hardware from the tournament was outside hitter Jackie Alanis, who was named the tournament's most valuable player after posting a tournament high of 41 kills and a .295 hitting percentage for the tournament.

Entering the tournament, the Javelinas will look to protect their 14-match unbeaten streak at home.

TAMUK's defense has been stifling this season currently leading the conference in total team blocks with 70, as individually Ayanna Jackson leads the LSC with 36.

TAMUK will start the LSC Preview with a match against, 8-1, Angelo State on Thursday night at 6 p.m. for Pack the House Night. The first 200 students who arrive will receive a free T-shirt courtesy of Javelina Athletics and Valero

The Rambelles enter the tournament with a high potent offense, leading the LSC in hitting percentage and total team assists.

On Friday, the Javelinas will welcome the Lions of Arkansas Fort Smith who come to Kingsville after going 2-2 last weekend as well at the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pitttsburg State.

The last time the Javelinas and Lions met, TAMUK swept UAFS a season a go on Sept. 30 in Kingsville.

The weekend concludes with the Javelinas "Gold Rush" game against St. Mary's on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Rattlers are 5-3 on the season but went 3-1 last weekend at the Iceman Invitational hosted by UT Permian Basin.

The Javs and Rattlers battled through five sets in last season's regular-season finale the last time they met with TAMUK coming out on top, 3-2.
