Javelinas complete Day Two of 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Ja’Qualon Scott and themen’s 4x400m relay squad punched their tickets to Saturday’s finals

PUEBLO, Colo.- On Friday, the Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program wrapped up Day Two of the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl on the campus of CSU Pueblo.

On the track, sophomore Ja'Qualon Scott punched his ticket to the 110m hurdle finals, placing second in his heat with a time of 13.67. Shortly after, he teamed up with junior Sterling Riles, freshman Tony Benitez, and junior Michael Samihamba in the men's 4x400m relay, where the team posted the third-fastest preliminary time of 3:08.84 to reach the finals.

Also in action, the women's 4x400m relay team featuring freshman Melanie Roland, sophomore Vitiana Robert, newcomer Amber Gonzalez, and sophomore Cynai Christopher placed 13th using a time of 3:47.15 to best Minnesota State.

Additionally, junior Paxton Hair competed in the discus, taking 16th with a 46.31m (151-11) toss on his second attempt.

Saturday will see junior Katryna Hernandez do battle in the shot put at 2:15 p.m., ahead of classmate Markim Felix in the javelin at 3:45 p.m. Graduate student D.J. Delancy will close out the field events at 6:05 p.m. as he competes in the men's iteration of the shot put.

Scott, meanwhile, will feature in a trio of running finals as he awaits the 110m hurdles at 7:05 p.m. and the 400m hurdles at 8:30 p.m. The men's 4x400m relay team will then close out the competition in the Centennial State at 10:05 p.m.
