LUBBOCK, Texas-Ā The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team fell via the run rule on Saturday, as Lubbock Christian outscored the Javelinas 14-3 to take a Lone Star Conference series finale at Hayed Field.Ā
The Javelinas (23-19, 22-18 LSC) were defeated by the Chapparals (21-16, 20-16 LSC), as sophomoreĀ Karson ShepardĀ (4-2) was dinged with the loss, while Andrew Duran (4-1) went the distance for the win.Ā
JuniorĀ Shelby BeckerĀ provided a bright spot for the Javelinas on offense, going 2-for-3 as sophomoreĀ Jake ChapmanĀ and juniorĀ Michael CervantesĀ went deep, and redshirt sophomoreĀ Ramsey AmadorĀ drove in a run.Ā
The Chaps pushed across three runs with two outs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Hogs got one back in the top of the second as Becker scored on an Amador sacrifice following a leadoff double.Ā
With their edge cut to two, LCU used four home runs in the third to help increase their lead to seven with an 8-1 score line.Ā
Chapman responded with a solo shot in the fourth, but the Chaps quickly answered with a long ball of their own that helped develop a 12-2 score line.Ā
LCU scored two more in the sixth, while a pinch-hit home run by Cervantes in the seventh resulted in a 14-3 score. The Chaps then found the final out and secured a run-rule victory.Ā
The Javelinas will now focus on a four-game series against a nationally recognized Angelo State squad, with game one set for 6 p.m. on Friday at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville, Texas.
