Five finish first on Final Day of 51st Annual Dave Noble Relays

The Javelinas had a stellar day in San Angelo, Texas

SAN ANGELO, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program had a stellar final day of competition at the 51st Annual Dave Noble Relays, hosted by Lone Star Conference-foe Angelo State at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field on Friday. 
 
The Javelina throwers set the tone as junior Katryna Hernandez heaved the hammer 51.14m (167-9 on her third attempt to rocket up the leader board and hand TAMUK their first gold of the relays. Freshman Mary Lloyd joined her in the event, using a 46.90m (153- 10) throw to collect bronze. 
 
The men's iteration featured graduate student Stephen Cardenas who made his way into first on his sixth and final attempt, reaching 56.15m (184-3).
 
Hernandez's day wasn't yet done; she also placed second in the shot put on a 13.68m (44-10.5) attempt.
 
In the men's discus, sophomore Paxton Hair recorded a provisional mark of 51.04m (167-5) on his last throw to climb into third place. Shortly after, in the women's discus, graduate student Veronica Garcia slung the implement 42.17m (138-4) on her fifth attempt for a bronze of her own. 
 
The men's shot put closed out the day for the group as senior Marco Arevalo heaved the shot 17.39m (57-0.75) on his second try to cement his spot atop the leaderboard. Graduate student D.J. Delancy also performed well, using a 16.79m (55-1) to collect bronze, as only Athan Huelskamp of Abeline Christian separated the two. 
 
TAMUK also succeeded in the high jump, with freshman Fakhreddine Benhadja surpassing a 2.00m (6-6.75) for the gold, while classmate Madison Ramos placed second in the women's iteration at 1.60m (5-3).
 
Sophomore Thomas Nieto continued his dominant season in the pole vault, as he cleared a bar set at 5.20m (17-0.75) to surpass reigning Lone Star Conference Champion Jacbobee Jones of Angelo State and record a first-place finish.
 
Junior Jazmin Ray was issued a silver medal in the triple jump after leaping to 11.61m (38-1) on her fifth try to rocket up the leader board. 
 
The 4x100m relay squads got things going on the track as sophomore Cynai Christopher, classmate Vitiana Robert, freshman Melanie Roland and fellow newcomer Martina Stanchi clocked in at 47.38 for bronze. 
 
Shortly after, in the men's race, senior Shaun Gill, sophomore Ja'Qualon Scott, junior Michael Samihamba, and sophomore Trevor Haynes just missed out on a provisional mark as the team finished in 41.02 for second behind the Rams. 
 
Christopher went on to shine independently, as she logged a third-place finish in the 200m dash, thanks to a time of 24.86.
 
The women's 4x400m relay squad comprised of freshman Amber Gonzalez, sophomore Lori Martinez, newcomer Zoe Brown, and junior Sophia Ramirez battled their way into third, clocking in at 4:00.92.
 
The day was then concluded with the men's 4x400m relay that saw junior Sterling Riles, sophomore Cody Fountain, freshman Tony Benitez, and junior Bryson Dyer finish in 3:15.02 and in second.
 
The squad will now focus on the 15th Annual Cactus Cup, as the team hosts a one-day event on April 15 in Kingsville, Texas, at Pepsi Field in Javelina Stadium.
