Javelinas fall twice to Colorado Mesa in final contests of the regular season

The No. 2 flight of Madelyn Wallace and Rylie Anderson picked up TAMUK's lone point

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — On Friday, the Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball program wrapped up the regular season with a 9-15 record after falling 4-1 and suffering a 5-0 defeat across a pair of duals against defending National Champion Colorado Mesa.
 
Match One
 
The Mavericks picked up the first point of the day as they took down the No. 4 pairing of newcomers Kalani Vasquez and Meghan Stiefer 21-12, 21-17. However, the No. 2 combo of freshman Madelyn Wallace and junior Rylie Anderson knotted things up and recovered after dropping the first set 22-20, taking the second 21-19, ahead of a 15-10 win in the third for a 1-1 score line. 
 
In the fifth flight, CMU regained the upper hand, as junior Jackie Alanis and freshman Taylor McCarthy went down 24-22, 21-19. 
 
The No. 3 tandem of junior Grace Gettys and newcomer Olivia Zeigler fell 21-16 in the first frame but kept their team's hopes alive with a 21-17 victory in the second stanza. The Mavericks persevered, taking the final set 15-13 to secure a match win. 
 
CMU then recorded their fourth point of the contest, besting the No. 1 combo of junior Adrienne VanBrunt and freshman Rylan Pollard 21-10, 21-10.
 
Additionally, junior Caitlin Willson and newcomer Delaney Evans lost the contest's extra match 21-12, 21-18.
 
 
Match Two
 
CMU again struck first, picking up the first point of the second dual on the No. 2 court 21-13, 21-15, ahead of a 21-19, 18-21, 15-5 win in the fourth flight. The Mavericks then used a 21-16, 22-20 score line to beat the No. 1's and secure their second victory of the day. 
 
The opposition collected their fourth point in the fifth flight as Alanis and McCarthy took the first frame 21-17, ahead of a 21-17, 15-8 finish in favor of CMU. The Mavericks then completed the sweep, taking down Gettys and Zeigler in three sets 21-16, 17-21, 15-11.
 
Additionally, Willson and freshman Elizabeth Williams fell in the exhibition match 21-15, 21-19.
 
TAMUK will remain in Grand Junction, Colorado, to compete in a Pairs Tournament on Saturday, ahead of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Small College Beach Volleyball National Championship on Friday, April 15, in Tavares, Florida.
