Shows, Melton each place 10th to conclude multi-events at Dave Noble Relays

Shows scored 3,907 points in the heptathlon and Melton 4,540 in the decathlon

SAN ANGELO, Texas- On Wednesday, junior Jezell Shows and sophomore Nathan Melton concluded competition for Texas A&M-Kingsville in the multi-events at the 51st Annual Dave Noble Relays, hosted by Angelo State in 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium. Shows and Melton each placed 10th, with Shows scoring 3,907 in the heptathlon while Melton earned 4,540 points in the decathlon. 
 
Shows jumped two spots up the leader board across the final three events, as she placed ninth in the long jump, using a 4.94m (16-2.5) leap to tack 543 points onto her total. She then heaved a javelin 21.86m (71-9) on her final attempt for 324 more, just before clocking in at 2:40.13 in the 800m to cement herself in 10th.
 
Melton shined in both the discus and javelin, placing second in the discus after slinging the implement 41.97m (137-8) for 705 points. Melton logged a 47.65m (156-4) mark on his final attempt in the javelin, adding 554 points to his score. The Lorena, Texas native concluded his competition with the 1500m run, where a personal record of 5:20.55 slotted him eighth and wrapped up his 10th-place finish. 
 
Competition in San Angelo continues on Friday, with field events scheduled to begin at noon, ahead of running prelims at 12:30 p.m.
