Melton 10th, Shows 12th through one day at 51st Annual Dave Noble Relays

Melton holds a score of 2,834 through five events in the decathlon, while Shows holds 2,469 with three to go in the heptathlon

SAN ANGELO, Texas- On Wednesday, sophomore Nathan Melton and junior Jezell Shows represented the Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program on Day One of the 51st Annual Dave Noble Relays, hosted by Angelo State in 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium.

Melton sits 10th in the decathlon through five events, scoring 2,834. His day started with a 100m dash that saw him clock in at 11.32 for sixth. He then leapt to 6.33m (20-9.25) in the long jump, ahead of a third-place finish in the shot put, resulting from a 14.27m (46-9.75) toss on his final attempt. The Lorena, Texas native, then concluded his day with a time of 52.90 in the 400m dash for seventh. His competition will continue on Friday, as the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m run await.

Meanwhile, Shows owns 2,469 points in the heptathlon, with three events remaining. She started things off with a 12th-place finish in the 100m hurdles, logging a personal best of 16.04. Shortly after, she cleared a bar set at 1.47m (4-9.75) to collect 10th in the high jump. Shows then posted another new benchmark in the shot put, with a 10.10m (33-1.75) heave slotting her ninth. In the 200m, she wrapped up Day One, clocking in at 27.94, and will be back in action on Friday, competing in the long jump, javelin, and 800m run.
