TAVARES, Fla.— The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball program wrapped up Pool Play on Day Two of the 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association Small College Beach Volleyball National Championships, finishing second in Pool 3 after falling to Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-1. As a result of the second-place finish, the Javelinas have advanced into the Challenge Round, where they'll meet Colorado Mesa at 2:35 C.T.

The match against PBA was close, as the No. 2 pairing of freshman Madelyn Wallace and Rylie Anderson fell 21-13, 21-12 to open things up.Â

The Javelinas responded in the third flight, with junior Grace Gettys and freshman Olivia Zeigler snagging a close first frame 22-20 before taking the second 21-19, knotting the contest, 1-1.Â

The No. 4 combo of newcomers Meghan Stiefer and Kalani Vasquez won their first set 21-17, but the Sailfish answered with a 21-13 win in the second stanza before claiming the third 15-12.

In the fifth flight, junior Jackie Alanis and freshman Taylor McCarthy struck first 21-18, before PBA rallied 27-25, 15-11 to secure the victory and the top spot in the pool standings.Â

The Javelinas will now battle the Mavericks in the Challenge Round to conclude Day Two of the tournament, with the winning team advancing into the AVCA Championship Bracket and the loser the Silver Bracket.Â
