TAVARES, Fla.— The No. 6 Seed Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team fell to the No. 4 Seed Colorado Mesa, 3-1, in the Challenge Round of the 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association Small College Beach Volleyball Championships on Saturday. The Javelinas are now set to face Saint Leo as they compete in the opening round of the Silver Bracket at Hickory Beach.
 
CMU jumped out to an early lead, taking down the No. 1 duo of junior Adrienne VanBrunt and newcomer Rylan Pollard 21-17, 21-14 before besting the No. 3 tandem of junior Grace Gettys and freshman Olivia Zeigler 21-15, 21-17.
 
The No. 5 combo of junior Jackie Alanis and freshman Taylor McCarthy then kept the Javelinas in the match with a 21-19, 21-18 win before the Mavericks prevailed 23-21, 21-19 over first-year Javelinas Madelyn Wallace and junior Rylie Anderson in the second flight to cap off their win.
 
The Javelinas will now compete in the Silver Bracket against Saint Leo, with the teams set to face off at 8:15 a.m. CT on Sunday. The victor will advance to the Silver Championships at noon, where they'll battle either Carson Newman or Spring Hill, while whichever team falls will meet their counterpart in the 3rd Place Match.
