Allen-Gonzalez picks up 100th victory on Day One of 2023 AVCA Small College Beach National Championships

Coach Allen-Gonzalez has picked up 100 wins, with 39 coming against NCAA Division I programs

TAVARES, Fla.— On Day One of the 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association Small College Beach National Championships, Texas A&M-Kingsville coach Tanya Allen-Gonzalez picked up her 100th career victory as the Javelinas first took down McKendree 3-0 before sweeping Wayne State College 3-0 at Hickory Beach.

"I'm so proud to get this 100th beach victory here at TAMUK", said coach Allen-Gonzalez following the win. "I'm incredibly thankful for the players and my assistant, Gary Payne. All 100 of the wins were only possible because of their talent and hard work!"

In addition to the victories, the duo of junior Caitlin Willson and sophomore Delaney Evans competed in the Pairs Challenge, going 1-1 and falling first to a pair from Palm Beach Atlantic, 14-21, 21-18, 15-12, before besting two from Ottawa 21-3, 21-7.

TAMUK vs. No. 14 Seed McKendree

The Javelinas cruised to victory in their opening match, besting McKendree 3-0, with the No. 5 tandem of junior Jackie Alanis and freshman Taylor McCarthy taking down their opponents 21-8, 21-8.

The No. 4 combo of freshmen Meghan Stiefer and Kalani Vasquez then worked a 21-11, 21-12 win to place the squad one point away from victory. The No. 2 pairing of freshman Madelyn Wallace and junior Rylie Anderson sealed the deal for TAMUK, besting the opposition 21-14, 21-19 for the sweep.

TAMUK vs. No. 11 Seed Wayne State College

The Javelinas then swept WSC as Stiefer and Vasquez claimed victory 21-13, 21-15 to kickstart the contest before the No. 2's topped their opponents 21-15, 21-14.

Alanis and McCarthy then sealed the deal once more with a decisive 21-15, 21-14 victory on the No. 5 court, cementing TAMUK's second sweep of the tournament.

The remaining tandem of junior Grace Gettys and freshman Olivia Zeigler on the No. 3 court and the No. 1 duo of junior Adrienne VanBrunt and newcomer Rylan Pollard were each in line for wins across Friday's contests, but after the Javelinas secured their victory, the matches were halted.

Following the victories, the Javelinas share a spot atop the Pool 3 leader board with No. 3 Seed Palm Beach Atlantic, who they'll meet on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. CT to cap off Pool Play ahead of the Challenge Round.
