KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball returns to action this week with a three-game home series against Midwestern State slated to begin with a Tuesday evening doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
This will be the Javelinas' (17-18, 14-13 LSC) first action since sweeping UT Permian Basin at home across March 31 and April 1, with their scheduled road series against #3 UT Tyler set for last weekend was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Javs will look for another strong performance from last week's Lone Star Conference Co-Hitter of the Week Breana Carr who became the first player in program history to hit for the cycle while posting on the weekend, a .636 batting average, with six RBIs, and slugging percentage of 1.182 in the Javelinas three-game sweep of UTPB.
The Blue and Gold offense is also bolstered by two of the best bats in the LSC, Jory Cervantes and Kayla Gonzales.
Cervantes, currently holds the third best batting average in the conference at .415 with the seventh best on base percentage of .481 while crossing the plate 33 times this season tying her for seventh best in the league.
Gonzales, has the sixth best OPS in the league with a mark of 1.183 with a top-15 on base percentage of .461 and the seventh highest slugging percentage at .722. Additionally, the junior from San Antonio, is tied for the seventh highest batting average in the league hitting .398 on the year.
The shortstop also leads the Javelinas in RBIs pushing 27 runs across so far this season thanks in part to a team-leading seven home runs.
The Mustangs (8-31, 7-23 LSC) come to Kingsville following a series win at home against Eastern New Mexico, taking two-of-three against the Greyhounds.
MSU, will look to keep its good run of form going, while trying to bolster the league's lowest team batting average, hitting only .189 this season. The Mustangs additionally, have committed the second most errors in the LSC with 70 on the year.
Following this midweek series, the Javelinas will travel to Denton, Texas to take on Texas Woman's across a three-game series beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m.
