Javelinas return to the Pelican State for ULM Bayou Bash

TAMUK will face off against Nicholls State, Southwest Baptist, and ULM

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team will take on a trio of opponents this weekend as they compete in the ULM Bayou Bash in Monroe, Louisiana. First, they'll take on Nicholls State at 8 a.m. on Friday, ahead of a 1 p.m. matchup with Southwest Baptist. On Saturday, they'll wrap up the tournament with another contest against the Bearcats at 8 a.m. before battling host school ULM at 10:30 a.m.Ā

Historically, the Javelinas (5-10) haveĀ foundĀ success against Colonels (2-15), dropping just one set across three meetings, with sophomoreĀ Madelyn Wallace, juniorĀ Rylie Anderson, and classmateĀ Jackie AlanisĀ all picking up wins over NSU. Additionally, Nicholls is slotted 85th on the Pablo National Rankings list, with their No. 2 and No. 4 pairings having the most success, each going 3-10 on the year.Ā

The Bearcats (6-7) had success last time out, picking up a trio of victories at the Mary Hardin Baylor tournament, as Bailey Laster and AzaleaĀ ClendenningĀ posted a flawless weekend. They rank 65th on the PabloĀ leader board, with their No. 1 combo of Kailey Pogue and Gabrielle Belcher slotting them 59thĀ amongĀ all NCAA pairs.Ā

Meanwhile, the Warhawks (15-1) have had an incredible start to the campaign dropping just one contest to Houston Christian at last week's Southeastern Sugar Beach Slam. All five ULM pairs rank in the top five nationally, with the No. 3 duo of Brooke Hoven andĀ TamsieĀ BlackĀ sitting atop the national rankings at 13-1 on the season. Both the No. 4 and No. 5 pairings rank third, while the team sits 35th in the Pablo listings.Ā

TAMUK picked up a win over NCAA Division I New Orleans last time out, and the No. 3 duo of juniorĀ Grace GettysĀ and freshmanĀ Olivia ZeiglerĀ posted a 9-6 record, while newcomerĀ Meghan StieferĀ and classmateĀ Kalani VasquezĀ have excelled since moving into the No. 4 spot at 6-5.
