Javelinas to visit Oklahoma Christian four-game road series

TAMUK carries momentum into the matchup after taking three games from UAFS

KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team will visit Oklahoma Christian for a four-game Lone Star Conference series at Dobson Baseball Field, beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. Following the opening matchup, the squads will meet for a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m., ahead of the finale Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Javelinas (16-14, 15-13 LSC) will battle the Eagles (10-15,10-14 LSC) after a successful weekend that saw the squad take three games from Arkansas-Fort Smith, allowing just two earned runs across the victories.

Junior Kobe Jaramillo started things off with seven strong innings and 10 strikeouts in a 5-3 game one win, ahead of a five strikeouts performance by Junior Colton Taylor in a 2-1 game two victory. Senior Luis Martinez then helped secure the series victory by twirling a complete-game shutout as his squad put up five runs.

At the dish, redshirt junior Ivan Duarte was the Javelinas' most consistent hitter, maintaining a .667 batting average while going 8-for-12 with three walks. Additionally, he swiped three stolen bases and accounted for two Blue and Gold runs. Classmate Nick Wolff also added four RBIs, while junior Michael Cervantes drove in three.

The Eagles are coming off a split against Texas A&M-International that saw 30 runs score. Their pitching staff maintains a 6.11 ERA on the year, with Naut Kraet and Blake Empkey featuring regularly in the rotation at six starts apiece. Kraet paces the team with three victories and a 3-3 record, while Empkey and John Skweres have each logged two wins.

Offensively, six members of the squad sit above the Mendoza line, as Empkey holds a team-best average of .372 with five home runs. Nobody on the OC squad has driven in as many runs as Marcus Johnson has recorded 16 while swiping 10 stolen bases.
