Javelinas to take on DI opponents at Stephen F. Austin Invitational Tournament

TAMUK meet Tulane and Stephen F. Austin at the SFA Invitational

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team hopes to continue its strong start to the 2023 campaign as they take on the Stephen F. Austin Invitational, first facing Tulane at 9 a.m. on Friday before battling the Lumberjacks at 2 p.m.

The Javelinas have been unable to top the Green Wave, going 0-4 in previous meetings, but carry momentum after a 4-1 start to the 2023 campaign. TAMUK won their first four games of the season for the fifth time in program history and fourth-straight year after taking down East Texas Baptist, Mary Hardin Baylor, Corban, and Missouri Baptist. The squad's lone loss came in their final contest of the Nick and Dee Herman Invitational to Power Five program Utah, despite sending four courts to a third and deciding set.

The No. 2 duo of junior Rylie Anderson and freshman Rylan Pollard had a stellar start to the campaign going 4-1 and slotting themselves eighth on the College Beach Volleyball NCAA pairs leader board. Among the No. 4's, senior Grace Gettys and freshman Olivia Zeigler check in at 11th, also going 4-1 to start the year.

Tulane has opened its season with a 3-1 record, picking up wins over Nichols State, North Alabama, and New Orleans, falling only to Louisiana State. SFA, meanwhile, has had a rough start going 0-5 at the Duke Kahanamoku Classic at Queens Beach in Waikiki, Hawaii.

The Javelinas maintain a 6-2 record all-time against SFA, including a pair of victories last season, with Anderson, sophomore Madelyn Wallace and junior Adrienne VanBrunt all picking up wins.
