Six provisional marks for Javelinas at Wes Kittley Invitational

Ja'Qualon Scott started his outdoor campaign with a pair of gold medals

ABILENE, Texas-Ā The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program concluded competition at the 2023 Wes Kittley Invitational on Saturday, as five student-athletes recorded NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks, including sophomoreĀ Ja'Qualon Scott, who logged a pair of first-place finishes in the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles.Ā

Scott clocked in at 13.62 to claim gold in the 110m hurdles, running the second-fastest time in program history. Additionally, he raced to first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.63, while juniorĀ Gabriel FieldĀ earned bronze at 54.12.

ClassmateĀ Thomas NietoĀ also posted a first-place finish, as he cleared 5.28m (17-3.75) on his first attempt to secure the gold and log a provo of his own.Ā

Three Javelina throwers reached provisional distances as seniorĀ Marco ArevaloĀ and graduate studentĀ D.J. DelancyĀ did so in the shot put. Arevalo placed second, using a 17.01m (55-9.75) toss on his second attempt to snag silver, while Delancy reached 16.53m (54-2.75) on his final throw for fourth.Ā

Meanwhile, in the discus, juniorĀ Paxton HairĀ placed seventh with a provisional mark of 52.19m (171-3) on his first toss.Ā

TAMUK also performed well in the women's throws, as juniorĀ Katryna HernandezĀ recorded a second-place finish in the hammer throw at 48.80m (160-1) and placed fourth in the shot put with a 13.80m (45-3.5) attempt on her final heave of the contest. JuniorĀ Mackenzie ContrerasĀ also competed in the shot put, finishing just behind Hernandez in fifth at 12.84m (54-1.5).Ā

Graduate studentĀ Veronica GarciaĀ was the Javelinas' top performer in the discus, as she placed fifth with a 43.48m (142-8) distance on her third attempt.Ā

JuniorĀ Jazmin RayĀ put together a solid performance in the triple jump, as she leapt to 11.25m (36-11) on her final try to climb into second on the leader board, just behind Allison Vaughn of Angelo State.

On the track, sophomoreĀ Cynai ChristopherĀ raced her way to fourth in the 400m dash, clocking in at 57.41, while sophomoreĀ Kennedi SilmonĀ took fourth in the 100m hurdles at 14.92.

Rounding things out, freshmanĀ Amber GonzalezĀ completed the 400m hurdles in 1:05.08 to place fourth in her first outdoor event as a member of the squad.

The Javelinas now focus on the Texas State Charles Austin Classic as they head to San Marcos, Texas, for a two-day event beginning on Friday at the Texas State University Track & Field Stadium.Ā
