TAMUK looks to bounce back in sixth conference series of the season

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville's softball team will hit the road for a three-game Lone Star Conference series against Cameron beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m.

The Javelinas (12-11, 9-6 LSC) head back on the road after dropping two of three games at home last weekend to No. 10 Lubbock Christian.

TAMUK is powered offensively by its stacked top half of its batting lineup including leadoff hitter Jory Cervantes and three-hole hitter Kayla Gonzales

Sixth-year senior, Cervantes leads the Javelinas with a .415 batting average amassing 34 hits across 86 at-bats so far this season. The outfielder from Pflugerville also leads the team in on-base percentage with a mark of .455 on the campaign.

Gonzales currently is hitting at a .400 average and a slugging percentage of .700. The San Antonio infielder has only struck out three times in 70 at-bats while producing 17 RBIs.

In the circle, fellow San Antonio product Beth Montes has been consistent for the Javelinas. The junior has produced a record of 7-3 across 13 appearances and 10 starts with an ERA of 2.55.

Additionally, she has thrown three complete game shutouts on the year with 67 total innings pitched.

For the Aggies (12-12, 9-9 LSC), they enter this weekend's series after dropping two of three games on the road against Eastern New Mexico.

They are led by Kaiden Boren offensively who has posted a batting average of .324 this season along with a .559 slugging percentage.

As a team, the Aggies are batting .270 on the year with a team ERA of 3.84.

Last season, the Javelinas swept Cameron in their four meetings in Kingsville.

After this series, TAMUK will return home for a mid-week series against Angelo State.
