Neito, Scott collect bronze medals on Day Two of NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships

Scott took third in the 60m hurdles, while Nieto claimed bronze in the pole vault

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The sophomore duo of Ja'Qualon Scott and Thomas Nieto each collected bronze medals while representing the Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program on Day Two of the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex on Friday. Additionally, graduate student Dean Wallace earned second-team All-America honors thanks to a ninth-place finish in the heptathlon.

Scott started the day running a blazing fast time of 7.74 in the 60m hurdle finals, allowing him to best Cale Kassen of Lee to climb onto the podium with a third-place finish.

Nieto, meanwhile, cleared a bar of 5.30m (17-4.50) on his second attempt to surpass a pair of athletes from Central Missouri for third. Nieto fell only to Vlad Malykhin of Harding, who set a new meet record at 5.52m (18-1.25), and Carson Dittel of Minnesota State.

After entering with a day two score of 2,830, Wallace took 10th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.64, ahead of a dominant pole vault performance that landed him in a tie for the top spot and collected 895 points on a 4.95m (16-2.75) clearance. He then finished things out with the 1000m runs, as a time of 2:51.26 carried him across the finish line for 5,300 total points and a ninth-place finish.

The Javelina men placed 19th out of 68 competing programs, despite only sending three athletes to the championships, and now will turn their attention toward the outdoor season.
