KINGSVILLE, Texas - Javelina softball will host No. 10 Lubbock Christian for a three-game series between the two Lone Star Conference foes. The series is set to begin on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. followed by a solo Sunday matinée at noon.
The Javelinas (11-0, 8-4 LSC) return home after a midweek series against Texas A&M-International where the Javelinas went 2-1 versus the Dustdevils including back-to-back shutouts to close the series.
Junior shortstop Kayla Gonzales leads the Javs and is currently fourth in the LSC in batting average this season with a mark of .435. The San Antonio native also leads the Blue and Gold with 15 RBIs on the season with 27 hits across 62 at bats, and striking out only once so far this season.
Sixth-year senior Jory Cervantes is also having a standout season batting .394 on the season while leading TAMUK in runs scored with 18.
In the circle, Beth Montes holds a team best 6-2 record along with a team low 2.29 ERA. Last time out, Montes pitched a complete game shutout against TAMIU in TAMUK's 8-0 win to take the series.
Additionally, in LSC play Carissa De Los Santos has posted a staggering 0.89 ERA across four appearances.
No. 10 LCU (19-7, 9-6) comes to Kingsville having swept Eastern New Mexico across Tuesday and Wednesday. This came after being swept themselves by No. 25 Oklahoma Christian on the road last weekend.
In fact, the Lady Chaps have not performed the best on the road only holding a record of 3-3 in road games while being 16-4 at home.
As a team, LCU has the best batting average in the LSC collectively hitting .342 this season, and is currently tied for the most runs in the league with West Texas A&M at 161 runs scored.
The Lady Chaps offensive prowess has been fueled greatly by Kasey Flores who is batting .412 on the season and is second in the LSC in slugging percentage at .912 with 31 total RBIs.
