Women's Basketball to visit league's top teams

Texas A&M-Kingsville will matchup against UT Tyler and Texas Woman's on the road

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team carries a seven-game winning streak into a pair of tough road matchups as they visit No. NR/RV UT Tyler and No. 4/3 Texas Woman's. First, the Javelinas will face the Patriots on Thursday at 5 p.m., ahead of a 2 p.m. clash Saturday with the Pioneers at Kitty Magee Arena.

The Javelinas (14-8, 11-5 LSC) picked up wins against Oklahoma Christian and UAFS as they erased a 19-point deficit to take down the Eagles 78-75, before besting the Lions, 72-55.

Sophomore Veyda Lake played a critical role in the comeback scoring a career-high 23 points, including an 11-for-11 mark from the free throw line. Additionally, freshman Shelby Ray had an excellent weekend averaging 14.5 PPG while hauling in nine bounds with four assists, two blocks, and a steal.

The No. NR/RV Patriots (19-4, 14-2 LSC) sit second in the LSC and are undefeated at the Patriot Center. The Javelinas, however, handed UTT one of two conference losses on the year, cruising to a 61-46 win at the Steinke Physical Education Center. The contest will see the two best defenses in the conference go at it as the Patriots allow a league-best 57.9 PPG and the Javelinas second at 58.3 PPG.

Lovisa Hevinder maintains the best three-point percentage in the league, sinking shots from beyond the arc at a 39.3% clip, and is second in the LSC in makes with 55. Additionally, Hevinder is the team's top rebounder, hauling in 6.2 RPG. Destini Whitehead leads the squad in points at 13.2 PPG, while Tina Machalova isn't far behind with 12.4 PPG.

The No. 4/3 Pioneers (21-1, 16-0 LSC) have yet to suffer defeat in conference play, with their lone loss coming back on Nov. 16 in an overtime bout with Harding. They routed TAMUK 79-50 earlier in the year and are looking to cement their spot as the No. 1 seed in the LSC tournament.

TWU has the second-best winning percentage in the country behind Ashland, who remains undefeated, as the Pioneers rank fourth nationally in free throws made per game, with 17.9 PPG coming via the charity stripe.

Ashley Ingram and Sadie Moyer have been standout performers for their club, with both sitting in the top 10 on the conference points leader board with Ingraham managing 16.5 PPG and Moyer 14.3 PPG. Ingram also paces the team in rebounds with 6.9 PRG, assists with 49, and blocks at 18.
