Beach Volleyball kickstarts 2023 campaign with a sweep over East Texas Baptist

The Javelinas claimed a 5-0 victory in their first match at the Javelina Beach Courts

KINGSVILLE, Texas — On Thursday, the Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team picked up a 5-0 victory over East Texas Baptist to open up competition at the 2023 Nick and Dee Herman Invitational at the Javelina Beach Courts.

The No. 5 pair of freshmen Kalani Vasquez and Meghan Stiefer started the day, picking up a 21-9, 21-12 win to open the contest and put TAMUK on the scoreboard. At No. 4, freshman Taylor McCarthy and junior Jackie Alanis earned a narrow 21-19 win in their first frame before decidedly clinching a point, thanks to a 21-12 victory in the second.

The No. 3 tandem of junior Grace Gettys and newcomer Olivia Zeigler made quick work of the opposition, 21-12, 21-9, before freshman Rylan Pollard and junior Rylie Anderson bested the Tigers 21-18, 21-9. The No. 1 pair of junior Adrienne VanBrunt and freshman Madelyn Wallace then bounced back after dropping their first set 17-21 to wrap up the day with a 21-17, 15-5 victory.

Additionally, in the extra match, sophomore Delaney Evans and junior Caitlin Willson cruised to a 21-18, 21-14 win.

The Javelinas now focus on Mary Hardin Baylor and Corban, first meeting the Cru at 1:45 p.m. on Friday before taking on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Day Two of the Nick and Dee Herman Invitational.
