Javelinas open 2023 Beach Volleyball season hosting Nick and Dee Herman Invitational

TAMUK will host six squads, including two NCAA Division I programs.

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team will open the 2023 campaign as they host the Nick and Dee Herman Invitational at the Javelina Beach Volleyball courts from Thursday through Saturday.

TAMUK invites six opponents to Kingsville, in the form of Corban, East Texas Baptist Louisiana Monroe, Mary Hardin Baylor, Missouri Baptist, and Utah, with competition opening on Thursday as the Javelinas face ETBU at 7 p.m.

The Javs will then play twice on Friday, first battling UMHB at 1:45 p.m., before another matchup at 5:30 p.m. with Corban, where the first 100 fans in attendance can receive a free T-shirt upon entry into the facility.

Saturday, TAMUK will meet MBU at 9 a.m., ahead of a Senior Day ceremony that will see Grace Gettys and Jackie Alanis honored just before a contest with Utah at 12:15 p.m.

The pair helped the Javelinas match the second-highest win total in school history after compiling a 19-12 record that included eight wins over NCAA Division I programs in 2022.

Gettys has been with the squad since 2020 and has gone 10-2 throughout her tenure, with a 6-2 record out of the No. 5 spot last season. Alanis, meanwhile, is in her second year on the squad and went 11-5 in 2022, including a perfect 6-0 out of the No. 6 flight.

Other returners include junior Adrienne VanBrunt, sophomore Madelyn Wallace, junior Caitlin Willson, and classmate Rylie Anderson who are back for 2023.

A slew of newcomers join the program and are looking to make their TAMUK debuts, with sophomore Delaney Evans transferring from ULM, where she made her first collegiate appearance at the Southern Miss Beach Tournament. Other first-year Javelinas include Taylor McCarthy, Rylan Pollard, and Meghan Stiefer, who bring collegiate indoor experience, as well as a trio of true freshmen.
