Javelinas take on No. 20 Angelo State in Homecoming matchup

TAMUK white out homecoming against visiting Rams

KINGSVILLE, Texas – It is Homecoming weekend for Texas A&M-Kingsville that welcomes No. 20 Angelo State to Javelina Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

The game will be a "White Out" with the Javelinas encouraging fans to wear white while the team will be wearing its Texas A&I throwback uniforms.

TAMUK enters the Homecoming contest, 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play after knocking off West Texas A&M at home last week, 28-21.

The No. 20 Rams come to Kingsville after a bye week last week, at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the LSC. The last time ASU played was two weeks ago in a 23-14 road win over Eastern New Mexico.

Quarterback Wade Freeman III will look to build off his impressive 2023 debut for TAMUK last week as the Richmond, Texas native went 14-of-22 through the air for 248-yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the "Junkyard Hogs" continue to harass opposing offenses recording 13 turnovers this season with at least one in each game this season.

The passing defense has been a particular bright spot for TAMUK with 11 interceptions this year.

The Hogs also hold the best rushing defense and defensive passing efficiency in the Lone Star Conference.

Scouting the Rams

ASU is led offensively by wide receiver Zorhan Rideaux who currently leads the LSC in receiving yards with 430 on the year averaging a conference-best 22.63 yards per reception.

Defensively, the Rams lead the conference in team tackles for loss this season, while defensive back Jordan McKinney leads the country in fumbles recovered with three.

Team discipline is a staple of this team with the fewest penalties against this season (26) and the fewest penalty yards.

Andrew Pitts has proven dangerous in the return game, currently sitting third in the country in punt returns averaging 21.8 yards per return while also tacking one back for a touchdown this season.

ASU was selected as favorites to repeat as LSC champions in 2023 in the conference preseason coaches' poll.

Last Meeting

The Rams defeated the Hogs, 34-7 last season in San Angelo in what was at the time a No. 15 vs. No. 2 matchup.

The only TAMUK points on the night came via an Amos Coleman III pick-six in the first quarter.

ASU held the Javelinas to only 145 yards of total offense while compiling 417 of their own.

TAMUK is seeking its first win against the Rams since 2011 having lost the last nine meetings.
