Portales, N.M. - Texas A&M-Kingsville's men's basketball team fell on the road on Sunday afternoon to Eastern New Mexico by a final score of 73-65.
The loss snapped the Javelinas' (14-6, 8-4 LSC) nine-game winning streak and marked the team's first loss in the calendar year of 2023.
"Every streak must come to an end," said head coach Johnny Estelle. "Give Eastern credit, they did a great job tonight and had an incredible environment."
At the end of the first half, the Javelinas only trailed by one despite a 17-3 run by the Greyhounds over a seven-minute stretch in the half, and ENMU ending the half going 5-of-7 from the field.
TAMUK's C.J. Smith and Isaiah Payne combined for 21 points in the half going for 10 and 11 respectively.
The Javelinas struggled to start the final half, as ENMU opened the half on a 16-3 run across the first five minutes bringing the score to 57-40, Greyhounds.
TAMUK struggled to score throughout the game only shooting 35 percent from the field compared to ENMU's 48, and never recovered from the early second half deficit. Kingsville cut the lead to single digits late in the half but came up short.
Payne, lead the Javelinas in scoring with 19 total points on 8 of 13 shooting from the floor.

The Javelinas return to Kingsville next week, opening a two-game home stretch against St. Edward's on Thursday night for Pack the House night.
