KINGSVILLE, Texas - Head coach, Tanya Allen-Gonzalez has announced the addition of Alana Polk as a new assistant coach for indoor and beach volleyball.

Polk joins the Javelinas from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania where she served as an assistant coach beginning in 2020 and the interim head coach of the Presidents for the 2021 season. In her role with the Presidents, she worked heavily in recruiting maintaining a prospective student-athlete database with over 400 student-athletes through the classes of 2022 and 2023.

"I am excited for the energy and positivity that Alana will bring to the staff," said Allen-Gonzalez. "She is personable, smart, and she will be able to push our athletes to grow." 

Along with her coaching experience, Polk brings experience as a former student-athlete as she was a four-year member and two-year captain during her collegiate career at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md. The Hawks compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference at the Division I level.

A native of Houston, Texas, Polk was a presence in the middle of the net throughout her career, as she finished as the school's all-time leader in blocks with 327. Polk racked up 526 kills and compiled a .268 hitting percentage during her time as a Hawk.

She earned All-MEAC Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2015 when she finished with career highs in kills (187) and blocks (122).

Polk has recently served as an instructor/coach at The Volleyball School in Katy, Texas. She assisted girls of all skill levels and ages ranging from 5 to 16.

Polk earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Maryland Eastern Shore in May 2018.
