Tempe, Ariz. - On Friday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its end-of-season regional rankings for Division II, with sophomore Alessa Maier ending the season at No. 4 in the singles ranking.
This ranking marks the highest end-of-season ranking for a singles player in program history and comes after Maier finished the season ranked No. 52 in the national singles rankings with a 16-5 record and was 8-1 in Lone Star Conference play. She ended the year with six straight victories and triumphed in 14 of her last 15 matches. These efforts earned Maier a First-Team All-LSC selection and she was also named to the All-LSC Tournament Team.
Maya Donkor and Raina Zaffar, finish the season at No. 7 in the doubles rankings. The ranking comes after earning two wins against highly-ranked opponents in the Lone Star Conference Tournament back in April. Donkor and Zaffar defeated the nationally ranked No. 32 Cassie Curry and EmilijaVisic of Midwestern State, then knocked off the No. 10 nationally and No. 1 doubles pair in the region in Anastasia Uspenskaia and MagdaWawrowska of Cameron University.
As a team, the Javelinas finish the season ranked No. 5 in the South Central Region and No. 66 nationally. TAMUK ended the 2022 regular season with an 11-11 record and a 5-4 mark in the LSC.
