KINGSVILLE - As of today, Javelina Stadium is closed to the public for turf renovation. The new turf project is scheduled to be finished by the end of Summer ahead of the Javelinas' 2022 football season.
The Javelinas will get their first chance to play on the new turf on September 3rd as they play host to the Stallions of North American University.
The 2022 season opener will be TAMUK's first ever matchup against NAU and will mark the first time since 2019 the Hogs have started the season at home. The Javs will also be aiming for their second straight win in their home opener, after they dropped Western Oregon 24-10 to start their Javelina Stadium schedule in 2021.
The second on game the docket for the Javelinas will also be in Kingsville, as they'll host Sul Ross State on Sept. 10
th in a rematch of a game TAMUK won 72-0 in 2019. That victory marked the first time in more than 40 years the Javs topped 70 points.
The first time Salinas' team will be on the road in 2022 will be on Sept. 17
th, when they'll make their first-ever trip to Buffalo Stadium, the home of the West Texas A&M Buffaloes. This matchup will also serve as the squad's 2022 Lone Star Conference opener. The Buffs moved from Kimbrough Memorial Stadium to Buffalo Stadium prior to the start of the 2019 campaign and since then have visited Kingsville twice, but now TAMUK will make its first trip to Canyon since 2018.
The season's first month comes to an end back on the Javelinas' home turf with a Sept. 24
th tilt against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. In 2021, the Javs earned their first road victory over ENMU since 2011 and in 2022, they'll be trying for their first win at home over the Greyhounds since 2016.
The Hogs will begin a busy October with a trip north of the border to Burnaby, British Columbia to play Simon Fraser on Oct. 1
st. The 2022 season will be the first year for SFU, along with Central Washington and Western Oregon, as affiliate members of the LSC for football.
TAMUK will be back at home on Oct. 8
