PORTALES, N.M. — Sophomore
Kobe Jaramillo and senior
Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) each twirled gems across a Lone Star Conference doubleheader for the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team as Jaramillo fanned 10 in a 6-0 win over Eastern New Mexico, before Garza struck out nine in a 5-0 victory at the Greyhound Baseball Field.
The Javelinas (30-15, 28-15 LSC) took two from the Greyhounds (16-31, 15-30 LSC) in a day that saw incredible pitching by the Javelina hurlers that allowed the Pack to log 30 wins on the year for the first time since 2019.
Game One
In game one, Jaramillo was lights out on the mound, tossing a three-hit shutout to propel his team to a 6-0 victory. That makes six wins on the season for Jaramillo, who struck out 10 and used just 89 pitches across seven innings.
Sophomore
Nick Wolff (Klein, Texas) continued his hot streak, as the reigning NCAA South Central Region Hitter of the Week batted in a pair of runs on two hits, while crossing the plate once. Additionally, senior
Giancarlo Servin (Edinburg, Texas) earned two RBIs of his own on separate sacrificed fly balls.
Sophomore
Garrett Thompson (New Braunsfels, Texas) got things going in the top of the first, smashing a single up the middle. He later came around and scored on a Servin sacrifice for the first run of the ballgame.
Back-to-back singles by Thompson and sophomore
Shelby Becker (Giddings, Texas) put two runners on for Wolff, who smoked a double into the gap to increase the Blue and Gold lead to three.
The Javelinas added a trio of insurance runs in the seventh, as Servin scored Becker on a sacrificed fly ball, before redshirt freshman
Jaden Cavazos (Weslaco, Texas) and Wolff capitalized on a Greyhound miscue for a 6-0 score line that was maintained until Jaramillo got the final out of the ballgame.
Game Two
In another captivating pitching performance, Garza scattered five hits across seven innings for a complete-game shutout of his own. The Round Rock native fanned nine and walked just, earning his sixth win of the season.
At the plate in game two, Servin went 2-for-3, while sophomore
Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) plated one, and Cavazos scored two.
Chapman wasted no time putting his team on the scoreboard in game two, launching a home run on the first pitch he saw in the top of the second.
Later in the fourth, singles by Servin and redshirt sophomore
Jessie Gonzales (Robstown, Texas) combined with a walk by junior
Colton Allen (Katy, Texas) loaded up the bases for Cavazos, who promptly shot a single up the middle for a pair of runs. Allen and Cavazos then came across the plate on a Greyhound miscue resulting in a 5-0 score line in favor of TAMUK.
Sunday's series finale will see a 1 p.m. first pitch in what represents the final game of the regular season at Greyhound Baseball Field.
