TAVARES, Fla. – On the final day of the 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association Small College Beach Championships, the Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team scored a 3-2 victory over the Saint Leo Lions before dropping a 4-1 decision to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday at the Hickory Point Beach Sand Volleyball Complex in Tavares, Fla.
The Javelinas finish the 2022 season with 19 victories, tying the 2019 team for the second-most in program history.
TAMUK vs. Saint Leo
Against the Lions, the Javs started off by taking the first set on four of five courts and the Blue and Gold's first point came from sophomore Rylie Anderson (Justin, Texas) and freshman Madelyn Wallace (La Vernia, Texas) in the fourth flight, who triumphed by a score of 21-12, 22-20. In the third flight, seniors Roxanne Morris (Goliad, Texas) and Olivia Nicholson (North Platte, Neb.) came out on top 21-16, 21-10.
TAMUK's victory was secured when seniors Tenley Housler (Bulverde, Texas) and Macie Satterwhite (Callisburg, Texas) won the first flight, 21-19, 22-20. This victory represented the 42nd career win in the No. 1 flight for Housler, which is a new program record for any Javelina player in one flight.
TAMUK vs. PBA
The Sailfish won the fourth flight, 21-9, 21-18, took the No. 1 match 21-18, 21-13 and clinched the match with a win at No. 2, 21-19, 21-12. The Javelinas got on the scoreboard thanks to Nicholson and Morris, who won the No. 3 match in straight sets, 21-13, 21-17, but PBA finished the match by collecting nail-biter in the fifth flight, 24-22, 11-21, 15-13.
