KINGSVILLE, Texas – Four straight victories have propelled the Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team back into possession of a winning record and with the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Championships only a few weeks away, the Javelinas will have a chance to test themselves against a few of the teams they might see at nationals at the C of C Beach Blast in Charleston S.C.
The event starts on Friday and for TAMUK, they'll be up bright and early on that day to take on the Huntingdon Hawks at 8 a.m., then battle the Erskine Flying Fleet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday will see the Javelinas tangle with the Catawba College Catawba Indians at 4:30 p.m. before a Sunday schedule that includes a 9 a.m. match against the Tusculum Pioneers and an 11 a.m. clash with the College of Charleston Cougars.
In both 2019 and 2021, the Javelinas met the Pioneers at the AVCA tournament and the Javs prevailed in each instance, including a 4-1 triumph in TAMUK's first match in Florida a season ago. So far in 2022, however, the Pioneers have put together their best season ever. TU got off to a 10-3 start and the 11 wins they've collected to this point are the most in program history. Three different Pioneer pairings have reached double-digits in wins, led by Olivia Knutson and Katie McLamb, who've gone 14-3 playing out of the third and fourth flights.
Neither Erksine nor Catawba have ever crossed paths with the Javelinas before, but both teams will be joining TAMUK and TU in the Sunshine State in April. The Flying Fleet, who own a 7-5 record on the season, will be there for the first time ever, while Catawba will be attempting to improve upon a 2021 showing that saw them earn only one win in four tries. The Lady Indians will also be in Charleston attempting to snap an eight-match win streak.
For the Javelinas, they recently completed their home schedule with a perfect 6-0 record, the third straight season they haven't lost at home. Two victories on Tuesday bumped TAMUK's record to 8-6 and a successful Friday would allow the Javelinas to push their win streak to six, which would be their longest since they won eight-in-a-row in 2019.
While the Javs have continued to shuffle their pairings, two tandems that've remained intact are seniors Tenley Housler (Bulverde, Texas) and Macie Satterwhite (Callisburg, Texas) and freshman Madelyn Wallace (La Vernia, Texas) and sophomore Rylie Anderson (Justin, Texas).
Housler and Satterwhite own a team-best nine victories and they've improved their all-time record together to 21-10. In their last four matches, all Javelina victories, Housler and Satterwhite have yet to drop a set.
Anderson and Wallace have posted a 7-3 mark in 10 matches together and the notches on their belt include defeats of pairs from Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss and UAB. Anderson's individual record in 2022 is 11-3 and she's improved her career ledger to 33-14.
