KINGSVILLE, Texas— The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team dropped a Lone Star Conference doubleheader against the Lubbock Christian on Friday, as the Chaps won a pair of pitching duels taking game one 2-0, and game two 4-2 at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville, Texas.
The Javelinas (16-9, 14-9 LSC) lost to the Chaps (20-5, 18-5 LSC) twice on Friday, despite allowing just six runs across the two contests
Game One
The Chaps claimed a 2-0 game one victory, while sophomore
Kobe Jaramillo (Bishop, Texas) logged a new season high in strikeouts, sending eight hitters packing in four innings of work, while walking one. At the plate senior
Giancarlo Servin (Edinburg, Texas) went two for two, earning a walk, with sophomore
Shelby Becker (Giddings, Texas) and classmate
Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) also logging hits for the Javelinas.
LCU got all of their runs in the fourth inning as a Larry Leitha home run opened the days scoring before a single by Carson Ogilvie doubled the Chaps lead. The Blue and Gold bullpen kept the Javelinas in the game until their final out with junior
Mathew Sessler (Harlingen, Texas) and redshirt freshman
Jackson Teer (San Antonio, Texas) carrying the Pack through the final three innings without allowing another LCU baserunner to cross the plate.
The Hogs got their leadoff runner on in each of the last four innings, but Ethan Coombes kept the baserunners at bay, earning the victory for LCU.
Game Two
In another tight contest, the Chaps earned a 4-2 win thanks to a three-run top of the first that TAMUK was unable to recover from. Following the rocky start senior
Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) settled down and delivered three scoreless innings to end the day with four strikeouts. The Hogs had seven hitters reach base safely including Servin and redshirt senior
Ivan Duarte (Juarez, Mexico) who each batted runs in.
The Hogs cut into the Chaps lead in the bottom of the second, with Chapman dropping a leadoff single into left field, before a Duarte triple earned the first Javelina run of the day.
With LCU up 3-1 sophomore
Hunter Kloesel (Shiner, Texas) entered in the fifth and tossed a perfect frame, prior to a single by classmate
Matthew Castro (Corpus Christi, Texas) that led off the second half of the inning. Senior
Kyler Bumstead (Kountze, Texas) laid down a sacrificed bunt to move Castro into scoring position for Servin. The senior from Edinburg delivered a single up the middle that scored Castro and brought the Pack within one.
Sophomore
Colton Taylor (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) pitched the final two innings of the ballgame striking out four of the nine batters he faced.
The Chaps tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on a single down the right field line, for a 4-2 win.
Saturdays' series finale will see a 1 p.m. first pitch as the Javelinas look to bounce back with a victory.
