KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team took two from UT Tyler on Saturday, winning game one 4-3, before senior
Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) and sophomore
Colton Taylor (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) led the Javelinas to a 2-0 victory, tossing a combined no-hitter in Lone Star Conference action at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (8-4, 7-4 LSC) bested the Patriots (6-5, 6-5 LSC) thanks in large part to a powerful pitching performance, with the Blue and Gold staff allowing only one earned run across the pair of games.
Game One
The Patriots scored all their runs in the first inning, pushing three across the plate following a Javelina miscue; from then on, sophomore
Kobe Jaramillo (Bishop, Texas) was lights out on the hill, tossing five total innings, striking out seven in the process.
Redshirt freshman
Jackson Teer (San Antonio, Texas) was called upon in the top of the sixth with one out and the bases juiced. , as the right-handed pitcher induced a pair of outs, getting TAMUK out of the jam and keeping the Pack in the ballgame.
A four-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth propelled the Javelinas to victory after sophomore
Garrett Thompson (New Braunfels, Texas) bunted for a single before swiping second. Thompson later came home on a single by senior
Giancarlo Servin (Edinburgh, Texas). The inning continued with a triple down the left field line, courtesy of sophomore
Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) that plated Servin as well as sophomore
Shelby Becker (Giddings, Texas).
Taylor came in and slammed the door shut in the seventh, recording his first save of the day and recording a strikeout to secure a 4-3 win.
Game Two
Garza and Taylor were lights out in game two, as the tandem combined for a no-hitter, with Garza striking out seven in six innings of work, while Taylor grabbed his second save of the day, punching out a pair of Patriot hitters in the top of the seventh.
The Pack plated two in the first, with Chapman smashing a single through the left side, scoring Becker. Later in the inning, sophomore
Nick Wolff (Klein, Texas) sent Servin home on a groundout in what represented the final run of the ballgame, for a 2-0 victory.
Sunday's series finale will see a 1 p.m. first pitch as the Javelinas eye a series victory over UT Tyler at Nolan Ryan Field.
