ODESSA, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team earned a 3-1 Lone Star Conference series win over the Falcons on Sunday, after claiming a 20-4 victory in a resumed contest from Saturday, before a 5-3 extra-inning comeback allowed the Pack to take the series at Roden Field in Odessa, Texas.
Game One
The Javelinas resumed a Saturday contest in the final inning, holding a 16-point lead before freshman
Robbie Spencer (Portland, Texas) tossed a scoreless frame allowing the Pack to claim victory 20-4, while guaranteeing a series split after a 22-13 win and 6-4 loss earlier on Saturday.
Game Two
The Javelinas pulled off an improbable comeback in the second game of the day, fighting back from down three runs in the bottom of the ninth, forcing extra innings before claiming a 5-3 win in the 10th.
UTPB struck first, plating twp runs in the bottom of the second, before sophomore
Colton Taylor (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) and the Javelina bullpen clamped down, allowing just one over the next six innings, allowing the hitters to wake up their bats just in the nick of time.
Taylor struck out three in three innings of work, scattering a pair of hits, before junior
Matthew Sesler (Harlingen, Texas), senior
Mason Foster Dilley, Texas), and junior
Luis Martinez (Grulla, Texas) kept the Falcons off the board, prompting the Pack to kick-start their comeback.
Senior
Giancarlo Servin (Edinburg, Texas) reached on an error kick-starting the Javelinas ninth-inning rally before sophomore
Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) walked and redshirt freshman
Ramsey Amador (Edinburg, Texas) singled loading up the bases for sophomore
Nick Wolff (Klein, Texas). The transfer student delivered, knocking in all three on a double down the left field line that tied the contest at three apiece.
Martinez returned to the hill in the bottom of the frame and sent the Falcons down in order, forcing extra innings.
Freshman
Kyle Perales (Hidalgo, Texas) was issued a free pass in the top of the tenth before Servin slapped a single to left field, plating the first-year student and delivering the first Blue and Gold lead of the contest. Moments later, Servin crossed the plate himself on a fielding error by the Falcons.
Carrying a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the tenth, Martinez recorded another perfect inning securing the game and series win for the Pack.
