CORSICANA, Texas – Texas A&M – Kingsville's football season came to an end with a 38-21, loss to East Central in the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
It was a game dominated by the ECU Tigers, who opened the game taking a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, never looking back on the way to the bowl game win.
The loss sees the Javelinas' record for the season drop to 7-5, which still marks the best season for the program since 2016.
HOW IT HAPPENED
ECU opened the game hot, capitalizing on a TAMUK special teams' error that saw Jacob Cavazos punt following the opening drive go into another Javelina setting the Tigers up on the TAMUK 14-yard line.
On the next play, ECU's Miles Davis rushed 14-yards into the end zone to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 13:12 left in the first quarter.
Two drives later Davis would score on another one-play touchdown drive, rushing 36-yards down the left sideline to put the Tigers up 14-0 with 6:12 :12 remaining in the first quarter.
A 25-yard field goal late in the first would see the Tigers go up by 17 to close out the first quarter of play.
The Javelinas would finally get on the scoreboard with 8:33 left in the second quarter as Cavazos found wide receiver Craig Clemons in the side of the end zone as Clemons made a spectacular catch around the ECU defender to bring the score to 17-7.
ECU then answered before the end of the half with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run that pushed the Tiger lead back to 17 points at the end of the half.
It would be more of the same in the second half, as the Tigers would tack on two more touchdowns in the third quarter pushing the score to 38-7.
Christian Anderson and Craig Clemons would tack on two late touchdowns for the Javelinas to bring the score to its conclusion of 38-21.
