Javelinas wrap up regular season hosting StMU before visiting West Texas A&M and Cameron

The Javelinas look to cap off an undefeated season in the SPEC before hitting the road

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team will play its final three matches of the season this week, first inviting St. Mary's into the Steinke Physical Education Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m., before battling West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. on Friday in Canyon, Texas and Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma Saturday, at 1 p.m.

The Javelinas (18-8, 10-3 LSC) have remained unbeaten at home thus far and with a victory over the Rattlers could secure their second undefeated home slate since the 2020 spring season. Additionally, TAMUK's record places them fourth in the Lone Star Conference standings.

Last time out, the Javelinas took down Midwestern State and Texas Woman's, dropping only one set on the week with several members of the squad posting impressive performances. Sophomore Ayanna Jackson was dominant both offensively and defensively, posting 26 kills and 10 total blocks, while hitting .477 across the wins. Classmate Sydney Whitmire set the squad up for success averaging 7.71 assists per set and dishing out 54 helpers, while senior Nicole Murff totaled 43 digs and anchored a defense that allowed opponents to hit just .141.

The Rattlers (14-12, 10-5 LSC) fell twice last week dropping road contests against UT Tyler and DBU but maintain a favorite to reach the LSC tournament sitting sixth on the leader board. StMU has struggled on the road this season going 3-7 away from Bill Greehey Arena, despite the stellar play of Dallastar Johnson who averages over a block per set and leads the squad with a .282 hitting percentage and in kills per set at 2.99.

The No. 11 Lady Buffs (22-4, 14-0 LSC) have been the league's most dominant team thus far and currently hold poll position entering the final week. They've dropped just one contest at "The Box" in 2022 as they fell to then-No.12 Northwest Missouri State on Aug. 37. Overall, WT enters the contest on a 15-game winning streak

The Lady Buffs top the league in blocks per set with their 2.48 average ranking eighth nationally, while also leading the LSC in kills per set at 13.88 and in opponent hitting percentage at .127. Key players include Taytum Stow who sits at 1.23 blocks per set and has 150 kills at a .363 clip, ad well as Torrey Miller who leads her team in kills with 3.74 per set.

The Javs will wrap up the regular season with a matchup against the Aggies  (5-24, 0-14 LSC) who is still searching for its first conference win of the season and the first victory since Sep 8. Despite their record, the Aggies boast two of the league's top talents in Anjolie and Arianna Navarrete. Arianna leads the team in kills with 320, while Anjolie boasts 32 service aces and Arianna 34.
