Volleyball visits DBU, UT Tyler in pair of road LSC matchups

The Javelinas will play the Patriots on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing UTT Saturday at noon

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team will hit the road this weekend, first facing off against Dallas Baptist at 6 p.m. in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, before taking on No. RV UT Tyler Saturday at noon in Tyler, Texas.

The Javelinas (11-6, 3-1 LSC) carry a five-game winning streak into the pair of Lone Star Conference matchups while sitting fifth in the league standings. TAMUK has been unstoppable lately as they collected sweeps over Arkansas-Fort Smith and Oklahoma Christian for a perfect weekend last time out. Additionally, sophomore Ayanna Jackson has been red hot as she's now claimed back-to-back LSC Offensive Player of the Week accolades and leads the conference in hitting percentage at .350.

Jackson isn't the only Javelina to top the LSC, with senior Nicole Murff pacing the league in digs, averaging 5.52 per set and 353 total. As a team, TAMUK ranks in the top three in several critical statistics, including kills, digs, and assists.

The DBU Patriots (14-3, 5-1 LSC) rank third in the conference standings behind No. 14 West Texas A&M and No. RV Texas A&M International, who both are undefeated in league play. DBU also holds a five-game winning streak, last falling to WT on Sep 16. They spent the previous week besting UTT in five sets before sweeping Western New Mexico. DBU leads the conference in aces, averaging 2.26 per set, and in hitting percentage at .268. Lauren Burt has played a significant role in the Patriot's success, as she ranks second in the LSC with 10.39 assists per set, with AJ Koele posting 4.35 kills per set, a figure that also sits second.

The UTT Patriots (11-6, 4-2 LSC) are currently receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Associations' national poll and sit sixth in the LSC standings. UTT enters the weekend undefeated in the Louise Herrington Patriot Center and split last week, falling in five sets to DBU before sweeping WNMU. The Patriots boast the conference's top attacker in the form of Mikayla Ware, who leads the league in kills, averaging 4.44 per set, a figure that's 10th nationally. Other team leaders include Savannah Guzman, who holds 222 digs, and Adeline Ortman, who has 469 kills.
