RICHARDSON, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2022-23 season as announced in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll that was released by the conference office on Monday.
This is two places lower than the Javelinas were slated to finish in last season's preseason poll. The Javelinas finished the 2021-22 regular season 12
th going 18-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play before making a run to the Lone Star Conference title game and qualifying for the South Central Regional in the NCAA Tournament.
Last year's conference tournament champion West Texas A&M was selected to finish first getting 36 of a possible 39 first-place votes and a total of 619 points. This was 59 points more than poll runner-up Dallas Baptist which got slated for second with 560 total points.
Last season's regular season champions Lubbock Christian was selected to finish third but garnered two first-place votes with a total of 489 points.
In fourth was Midwestern State with 460 points, St. Edward's in fifth with 428 points, TAMUK in sixth with 399 points, St. Mary's in seventh with 380, and Angelo State with 364 to round out the top-eight.
The 2022-23 LSC basketball schedule will feature 16 men's teams in two divisions. Each team will play a double round-robin schedule within their division. Additionally, teams will play eight crossover competitions against teams from the opposite division for a total of 22 conference games.
The LSC Basketball Championships will feature an eight-team field in 2023 with seeding based on the 22 conference games. The divisional winners will receive the top two seeds in the tournament. The championships are set to take place March 2-3-4-5, 2023, at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
The Javelinas will have their first action of the 2022-23 season with an exhibition on November 4
th at 7 p.m. as they travel to College Station, Texas for an exhibition against Texas A&M.
